August 2022 Art Exhibit Reception

Wed, Aug 24 - 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre announces its featured artists for the month of August: Suzanne Hetzel, Karen Penney, and Maureen Seltzer.

Artist Suzanne Hetzel began painting at eight years old, explored watercolors for the first time under the guidance of her grandmother, and has been in the visual art world ever since. While Hetzel is best known for her watercolors and is one of the Central Regional Directors for the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, she also works (and teaches) in additional mediums such as drawing and printmaking, the latter of which she will be teaching starting Thursday, September 1 at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre (seats still available). Her most recent adventures include writing and illustrating children's books entitled Animal Manners and The Mouse Who Had Everything.

Learning to crochet as a teen gave artist Karen Penney an interest in other forms of artmaking and launched her into the macramé world. Penney moved to the area during the pandemic and immediately began to build her network with other creatives. As a result, you can find her creations in Southern Suds in Wake Forest, Archer & Pratt in Youngsville, and The Artisan Market at 305 in Durham. She also teaches classes, such as her upcoming Macramé Mixed Fibers Workshop on Sunday, August 21 at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre (seats are still available).

Mixed media artist Maureen Seltzer is a creative that gives back by serving on community boards and building ways for other artists to thrive such as with the creation of The Artists Loft inside Wake Forest Coffee Company, where you can find additional pieces from her body of work. She also enjoys sharing her love of art with others through teaching for the Town, the City of Raleigh, and the NC State Craft Center. Some of her smaller mixed media works will be featured in this month’s show in our display case. Her process involves a multi-layered approach with the use of recycled and upcycled materials.

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre is proud to support local artists. A reception will be held in honor of our August artists on Wednesday, August 24 from 5pm-7pm in the Art Annex. We invite you to come and meet these amazing artists and see their wonderful work. All work is available for sale and sales will be made through the individual artists.

If you are unable to attend the reception on Wednesday, August 24 from 5pm-7pm, you can sign up for an appointment time to view the exhibit during the month on August at the link below.
