Weekend events canceled or postponed due to Hurricane Florence

Due to Hurricane Florence, the Town of Wake Forest is cancelling or postponing the following events: Music at Midday (Sept. 13); Friday Night on White (Sept. 14); Good Neighbor Day (Sept. 15); and Exploring the Heritage of the Ailey Young House (Sept. 16). The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre is also cancelling the first weekend of Forest Moon’s Presentation of “Crimes of the Heart” (Sept. 14-16).

Please note the following about each of these events:

  • Music at Midday will resume on Thursday, Sept. 20.

  • The final Friday Night on White of 2018 will not be rescheduled. The free outdoor music series will resume in April 2019.

  • Good Neighbor Day has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22.

  • “Exploring the Heritage of the Ailey Young House” has been rescheduled for Sunday, Oct. 7.

  • The second weekend of Forest Moon Theater’s presentation of “Crimes of the Heart” will proceed as scheduled Friday-Sunday, Sept. 21-23. Additional showings may also be scheduled and will be announced as soon as details have been arranged. In the meantime, anyone who purchased tickets for the Sept. 14-16 shows will receive refunds. For more information, call the Renaissance Centre Box Office at 919-435-9458.

With most forecast models for Hurricane Florence calling for high winds and major flooding, Town officials made the decision to cancel or postpone these events out of concern for public safety. Once the hurricane makes landfall and continues to the Wake Forest area, it is critically important for residents to stay off the roadways. When residents venture out on the roads, they not only put themselves at risk, but they also put others in jeopardy. Then, if they are involved in an accident, police officers and first responders are at risk. Area residents can help themselves, their neighbors, law enforcement and first responders by simply staying off the roads.
