Oil and Cold Wax (14+)

Event Date:
Sunday, October 15, 2023 - 2:00pm to 4:30pm

In this class the participants will learn the fundamentals of oil and cold wax painting. Many questions will be answered concerning this medium and how it is used. This specific painting medium is not defined by subject matter nor degree of realism or abstraction. It is a combination of oil painting and encaustics without the use of heated wax nor the lengthy drying time of traditional oils. The cold wax medium used is made up of beeswax, Gamsol and alkyd resin which shortens the drying time of the oils. Cold wax makes the oil colors thicker and more matte allowing for multiple layers in a single session. There is the possibility of greater texture and experimentation using this medium. Cold wax is compatible with all oil colors but cannot be combined with acrylics (even though acrylic underpaintings may be employed). All materials included.
