The Renaissance Centre is thrilled to present the June-July 2022 Art Show featuring Mike Kaess and Ian Slade.
Mike Kaess started drawing and painting while in the third grade. He continued to develop his natural talent in high school, graduating with an Art in Sculpture Award. His 20-year military career and a second career in State government left little time for artistic pursuits. Mike promised himself he would take up his pencils and paints again when he retired, but he never thought he would develop a passion for wood turning. In less than three years, his talent has produced a range of creative bowls, candleholders, and lamps. His exceptional pieces of three-dimensional art include work done in cedar, and an array of spalted wood, which is a form of decayed wood caused by fungi. Although difficult and challenging to work, his work brings out the coloration and wood patterns sought by many more experienced workers of this wood art.
Ian Slade is a Wake Forest based photographer who uses toy figures to portray different stories. Ian uses his fine art photography skills to bring to life a world of beloved toys immersed in action scenes. The figures are posed in different scenarios using the objects from the different environments. Additionally he has landscape photography displaying locations he has traveled and things he has seen.
