September Art Exhibit + Reception
"Japan in Black and White" by Tom McCabe
Entitled “Japan in Black and White,” our September art exhibit will feature works by photographer Tom McCabe. This exhibition is supported by the Craven County Arts Council.
Born in Chicago, IL in 1946, Tom is a retired US Marine who has travelled extensively and currently lives in New Bern, NC. He is a Vietnam veteran and a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America. Tom is an award-winning photographer and is the owner of Coastal Light Photographic Arts.
Tom got started in photography as a boy, but never really got serious until buying his first 35mm camera in Vietnam in 1969. Though a more serious photographer after that, he never sat for any training of any sort other than to read a few books and magazines. When sent to Japan in 1997 he moved into medium format and ultimately large format photography. In 2007 he moved from film to digital.
Tom lived in Japan for more than five years total. He hopes to share his vision of the Japanese culture in silver gelatin prints printed in his personal darkroom, as he continues his journey of learning the art of photography in this month’s exhibition entitled “Japan in Black and White.”
Joining alongside our guest artist this month are members of the Capital City Camera Club from Raleigh, North Carolina: Michele Alias, Marlene Allen, Paul Atkinson, Frank Clemmensen, Rosa Dirrigle, and Lynne Feiss Necrason.
Come join us for a special reception to honor our artists on Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 6-8 p.m. at the Renaissance Centre Arts Annex located at 407 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest.
See the art display and meet the artists behind the work. The reception is free and open to the public. For more information, contact RC Art Liaison April Cannon at 919-435-9568.
